Riding Waves, Creating Connection: Celebrating Surfers Healing This Giving Tuesday

Double GoodDecember 2, 2025 • Read 4 Min

The ocean has become a setting for courage, connection, and community. For Surfers Healing, it began with a single board and a simple, but powerful, mission: to take kids with autism surfing.

Co-founded by professional surfer Izzy Paskowitz and his wife, Danielle, Surfers Healing was inspired by their son, Isaiah, who has autism. One day, Izzy brought Isaiah onto his surfboard, and it calmed him in a moment of sensory overload.

What began as one family’s act of love has grown into a national community built around radical inclusiveness. Each year, more than 4,500 children and their families experience the freedom and acceptance of the waves through volunteer-run surf camps. There are no costs for families — just people coming together to defy limits and celebrate what’s possible.

When we help kids get up on a board, we’re challenging preconceived notions of capability. When we encourage participants to dive in, we’re empowering them to engage with the world. And when we ride the waves together, we’re affirming that every person is a gift.

A Partnership Rooted in Purpose

Double Good’s partnership with Surfers Healing began in 2017, sparked by a shared belief in creating experiences that uplift and include every child. What started with sending popcorn to surf camps quickly grew into a deeper connection. Since then, Double Good volunteers have traveled to Surfers Healing events across the country, connected with families, and experienced firsthand what happens when community and compassion come together.

Over the years, Double Good has provided custom surfboards, life jackets, and volunteers — more than 80 Double Good team members have joined in these transformative events. Many return year after year, not just to give, but to receive something profound: perspective, purpose, and the reminder that joy is meant to be shared.

The neurodivergent community is blessed to have such unbelievable charities like Surfers Healing, who give time, money and love to all the families. The families shared that these days are really important to everyone and a highlight of the year. I felt proud to represent Double Good and what we stand for: helping fundraisers raise millions of dollars and create joy for so many.

Celebrating Giving Tuesday with Surfers Healing

This Giving Tuesday, Double Good is proud to honor Surfers Healing with a grant, another small wave in a much larger ocean of impact. The ongoing relationship matters to us, as we are inspired by their belief that inclusion isn’t about saying “everyone is welcome,” but rather about showing up — again and again — to make sure everyone feels like they belong.

Every time a child stands on a board for the first time,  a family cheers from the shore, and a Double Good team member returns from a camp with a sunburn and a full heart, we see the impact.

Special needs families are told what their kids can’t do — college, prom, marriage. But when you see them out on the waves, you realize: they can do anything. That courage carries through the whole year.” — Alison Dyer, Head of Partnerships Schools & Youth Nonprofits

That’s the spirit of Giving Tuesday, not just giving back, but giving good.

Looking Ahead

As we celebrate Surfers Healing and the thousands of lives they touch, we’re reminded why we do what we do: because joy, courage, and connection are created, one wave at a time.

That same spirit drives the Double Good Kids Foundation, which sparks joy for children with special needs and their caregivers through inclusive experiences and spaces that foster play, connection, and possibilities. When you buy popcorn directly from our website, you help fund that mission.
