Double Good Days 2025: Celebrating Inclusion and Joy for Kids with Special Needs

In early June, over 700 attendees gathered at Kohl Children's Museum in Glenview to celebrate the 3rd annual Double Good Days—a sensory-friendly event dedicated to creating joyful, inclusive experiences for children with special needs and their families.

Thanks to our incredible partners, volunteers, and the popcorn-loving community that powers our mission, Double Good Days 2025 was filled with laughter, exploration, and pure joy.

From singing and dancing, to slime, therapy animals, and even wheelchair basketball, the day was designed to allow every child, regardless of ability, to feel welcome, confident, and free to be themselves.

At Double Good Days, Robbie was truly able to be himself and let go of worrying what everyone else thinks. He left the event confident and chatty and went to sleep dreaming of wheelchair basketball! The coach was amazing with him and gave him the patience and attention he needed and deserved.

The event was built around all-inclusive, sensory-friendly experiences where kids with unique challenges could have fun without any worries.

From wheelchair basketball with Lincolnway Special Recreation Association to dynamic play stations from Special Olympics Illinois, movement and joy were front and center. Kids danced with Special Gifts Theatre, explored science with Science Olympiad, and got creative at the Paint-a-Car station.

For sensory play, GiGi’s Playhouse and Sloomoo Institute offered engaging hands-on fun. Animal lovers lit up during special visits from Rainbow Animal Assisted Therapy and Mane in Heaven, bringing smiles through therapy dogs and miniature horses.

Each activity was designed to help every child feel confident, supported, and free to be themselves.

What makes Double Good Days even more special is the people behind it. Majority of our volunteers are Double Good employees, who show up not just to support, but to participate. They’re not behind the scenes; they’re on the ground, helping kids paint cars, passing out slime, dancing at the silent disco, and making every family feel welcome. It’s a hands-on effort powered by people who believe deeply in our mission and the joy this day brings.

Events like this are only possible because of the support from our Double Good community. When supporters purchase popcorn directly through our website, 50% of proceeds go to the Double Good Kids Foundation — making moments of joy like this happen.

Whether it was kids acting and singing their hearts out, exploring sensory activities, or sharing popcorn with new friends, one thing was clear: inclusion is powerful, and joy is contagious.

Thank you to everyone who helped make Double Good Days 2025 unforgettable — and stay on the look out for our next event. We can’t wait to see you next year.
